DCC50S 12V 50A DC-DC Charger with MPPT

The Renogy DCC50S charges a 12 V house battery with up to 50 A from two sources at once: the alternator, including Euro 6 smart alternators from 12 V, and solar panels through a built-in MPPT controller. Battery profiles cover AGM, gel, flooded and lithium. Self-consumption is 60 mA; the unit operates from -35 to 65 °C.

Safety notes for this component

  • Common negative ground: the DCC50S is not isolated, so starter and house battery negatives must be joined.
  • Fuse the alternator input, the solar input and the battery output separately, each close to its source.

Current is the rated power divided by the nominal voltage, so a charger can come out a little above its label rating. Copper cable at 20 °C, positive and negative conductor, at most 3 % voltage drop. The cable is always rated for the fuse that protects it, and the fuse is sized at 125 % of the current. Input current assumes about 90 % conversion efficiency. If the manufacturer manual specifies a fuse or cable, follow the manual.
