Chargers
Three kinds of charger fill a house battery: an MPPT solar charge controller from the panels, a DC-DC charger from the alternator while you drive, and a mains charger on shore power. Most builds end up with two of them.
For an MPPT, the open-circuit voltage of the panel string on the coldest morning must stay below the controller limit, and the charge current caps the panel power it can use (30 A into a 12 V bank is about 360 W). Vehicles with a smart alternator need a DC-DC charger; size it to the spare alternator output and the charge current your battery accepts.
